Bangladesh is a country of approx 56,000 square miles (about the size of the US state of Iowa), but has a population of about 158 million.  The religious split of the population is Muslim 89.5%, Hindu 9.6%, other 0.9% (2004).  The average age is 68 years, and the country is classified as a high risk of major infectious diseases.  20% of the people have poor drinking water quality, and 47% have poor sanitation.
